A Touch of Home started in November 2004 as an outlet for the crochet my wife was continually working on. She had also learned how to make Gel Candles, and wanted to find a way to market them. In November 2005, we took over the inventory of a store in Old Colorado City that was closing. However, we knew we needed to start small until we could build up a clientele, and so we moved across the street to the smallest storefront in Old Colorado City.
After two years in that tiny 6 foot by 12 foot store, in Old Colorado City, Lorraine decided it was time to move into a bigger spot and change some of the focus of the store. She was also frustrated that the fabric stores in Colorado Springs had moved either north or east, and there were no fabric stores to serve the South Colorado Springs customers. And, with the price of gas going up daily, she wanted to bring fabrics back to South Colorado Springs.
So, after several months of scouting out new locations, she landed in the Mission Trace Shopping Center on the Southeast corner of Hancock and Academy Boulevards. At over 5 times the size of the previous store in Old Colorado City, her line of merchandise was definitely able to expand.
Unfortunately, with the current economy, things did not go as well as hoped, and we moved across Academy Blvd into the Access Self Storage Warehouses, behind Victory World Outreach. Lorraine still does reupholstery work, and can arrange classes for quilting, knitting, and crochet.
Make A Touch of Home your destination, whether online or our brick and mortar storefront. We want to become your hometown store for fabrics, yarn, sewing accessories and gel candles.
Thanks
Bill & Lorraine
